Stravinsky on Constraints
I love this quote from Poetics of Music: in the form of six lessons By Igor Stravinsky:
The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one’s self… the arbitrariness of the constraint serves only to obtain precision of execution.
I wonder how this applies to software design? What is the “sweet spot” between constraint and flexibility that provides the best conditions for creativity?
